NLCA Fifth Grade Blog

Today I sent a study guide for both History and Science tests next week. They do not need to be completed at home. I just wanted the students to have them in their hands to begin studying. The history test will be on Wednesday over chapters 1-6 and the Science Test will be on Friday over chapters 1-5. Diagrams and map pages are included in the study guides. P Please remind the students that they can use their textbooks, notebooks, and past quizzes to study as well.  On Monday, we will take an open book quiz over sections 5.4-5.6 in science.  The class has earned a trip to Pizza Hut! Please watch for the permission slip to come home. I have it tentatively scheduled for Friday. I will let you know for sure on Monday. :) We will be on Spelling list 9 this week.  Happy Friday!  On Monday, there will be a history quiz over sections 6.1-6.3.  This weekend's homework is science pages 185-186.  Friday the 23rd is the last day of the grading period, so if your child is missing any assignments, please encourage them to turn them in. You can see their grades on Renweb. Our class is scheduled to arrive at the pumpkin patch at 10 on Tuesday and leave at 1. If you have a sibling, you are welcome to go at their arrival time. Great job at Grandparents' Day! They did a terrific job!  Remember, there is no school on Monday! Enjoy the day off. ONLINE BOOK FAIR HAS BEGUN! We are looking forward to a terrific day tomorrow as we welcome our grandparents!  Remember we are represent the Great Depression, so dress in a white or plain shirt and pants. Girls can even wear a dress if they have one that would fit the era.  It will begin at 10 and dismissal is right after. Please have your child signed out in the classroom.  There will not be a verse quiz tomorrow.  Tonight's homework is to study for the Science Test and 5 times each for missed words on trial test.  If anyone happens to have a red bandana or scarf that we could use for tomorrow, that would be great! 

Copy spelling list 6 twice. Copy vocabulary once.  I told the class to work on History and Science check-ups if they were behind.  Also, study guides werer sent home today.  Science Quiz is Wednesday and Science Test is Friday.  History Quiz is Thursday.  Remember, Grandparent's Day starts at 10:00, and they need to wear white shirts and plain pants or dresses/skirts. We are representing Great Depression kids. Dismissal is right after; they will need to sign out with me, please. (We do have normal class until the program.)  Verse quiz is Friday over Phil. 4:6. 

Happy weekend! This weekend the students need to finish reading Message of the Mountain. Today a new policy was begun in our classroom. We will no longer allow squishy and fidget toys in the classroom.  After praying, observing, and doing research, I have found that fidgets of any type are actually more of a distraction.  Students can no longer have them in the classroom. I will reevaluate this after a week of the no fidget rule. There are many techniques we can use to help students to focus, and I would like to explore them to find the best posible method for each student idividually. It is possible that a fidget created specifically for focus will be permitted at a later date.  God made each of us "fearfully and wonderfully", and it is my desire to create the most effective learning atmosphere for each student.  Thank you for understanding. Tomorrow is the first day of October! 🍂🍁 Just a friendly reminder that we don’t celebrate Halloween at NLCA. If your child has jack-o’-lanterns, ghosts, or other Halloween-themed designs on their clothing, please save those for days when we aren’t in school. 😊 Thank you for helping us keep our school environment consistent with our guidelines!
